Gender equity

Building an inclusive and equitable workforce

Our Gender Equality ambition

nbn offers fair, equitable and inclusive opportunities for our people to thrive and succeed professionally, regardless of gender.

Reaching gender parity within our workforce will allow nbn and the services we offer to excel even further.

Our goal is to bring more gender diverse voices into our company and industry through mentoring, graduate programs, traineeships, leadership and career opportunities focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

We have set gender equity goals through company-wide targets and initiatives including:

  • working towards 40 per cent female representation in senior management roles
  • continuing our focus on achieving and maintaining gender pay equity
  • building gender-balanced recruitment shortlists and interview panels when hiring new employees
  • establishing employee reference groups to support everyone's professional development, career progression and access to the best support at nbn
  • empowering our employee network, 'nbn® Equals', in leading various programs and events to support our Gender Equity approach
  • providing inclusive flexible work options, training, practices and support for all our people at nbn

We are the first Government Business Enterprise listed in the Australian Academy of Science's Women in STEM Decadal Plan Champions, which encourages organisations to work towards gender equity through leadership and cohesion, evaluation, workplace culture, visibility, education and industry action.

We collaborate with WORK180, an international jobs network that connects businesses with talented women. WORK180 aligns with nbn's commitment to a fair and equal workplace for everyone by using pre-screening criteria and diversity initiatives focused on age, ability, ethnicity and sexual orientation.

At nbn, we're helping more women to build their careers in the telecommunications industry and Australia's digital future.

We often recruit for nbn's Customer Field Technician Traineeship Program, where we offer national qualifications and expert support to help you make a difference for communities and customers across Australia.
