Accessibility statement

nbn is dedicated to ensuring an inclusive and accessible website experience for our visitors, regardless of device technology or abilities. This commitment reflects our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility across all digital platforms, including our website, marketing materials, and communications.

Overview

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) publishes a set of guidelines called the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) that are currently at version 2 which encompasses 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2. There are three levels of WCAG compliance:

  1. Level A
  2. Level AA
  3. Level AAA.

The nbn website aims to comply with WCAG 2, Level AA.

nbn's Accessibility and Inclusion Plan 2023-2026 prioritises digital accessibility through Goal 2: "Communications by nbn are accessible and inclusive, including nbn's website (nbnco.com.au), marketing materials, social media and other content that is provided direct to the consumer, or to consumers via partners".

This goal applies to:

  • internal platforms for nbn employees
  • industry-specific digital tools and resources
  • public-facing website for customers and consumers
  • all other external digital content and platforms.

We are consistently working to implement WCAG 2, Level AA standards across these areas to ensure compliance.

Using browser and operating system accessibility features

Using a keyboard

Interactive and focusable elements are visually outlined using the Tab key during keyboard navigation.

For Mac users: Access the Apple icon in the menu bar and select System Settings. Select Accessibility in the sidebar. Scroll to the Motor section and select Keyboard. Toggle on Full Keyboard Access.

We do not define custom access keys to avoid conflicts with assistive device key combinations.

Switching to high contrast

Your desktop operating system provides options for turning on a high-contrast colour scheme, and some mobile devices also offer a high-contrast mode.

For Windows 11: Open the Start menu and select Settings, Select Accessibility. Under the Vision category, choose Contrast themes. Select a high contrast theme from the drop-down menu and select Apply.

For macOS: Access the Apple icon in the menu bar and select System Settings. Select Accessibility, then Display in the sidebar. Choose Invert colours or Use grayscale in the Display settings.

For iPad: Open Settings, select Accessibility then select Display & Text Size. To reverse colours, toggle Smart Invert or Classic Invert, or choose Colour Filters for more options.

For Android devices: Access the Settings gear icon then select Accessibility to read the various options. To invert colours, select Colour inversion and toggle it on. For high contrast text, select High contrast text and enable it.

Enlarging the page

Adjust page size within your web browser to make text and images more readable.

For PC: To zoom in select Ctrl + and to zoom out select Ctrl - (minus). To reset the page to default sizing select Ctrl + 0 (zero).

For Mac: To zoom in select Command + and to zoom out select Command - (minus). To reset the page to default sizing select Command + 0 (zero).

These shortcuts work across multiple web browsers including Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Interactive components

Some elements on our pages are interactive, such as tabs and automatically changing content. We provide controls to pause or stop this interactive content, allowing you to access it at your own pace.
