Ms Sweeney was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of NBN Co effective 3 December 2024.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

As CEO and Managing Director, Ms Sweeney is responsible for implementing strategic objectives and policies, and NBN Co’s Corporate Plan and budget as approved by the Board.

With more than 25 years of experience in the global telecommunications industry, Ms Sweeney brings deep expertise in digital infrastructure, network transformation, customer strategy, and organisational leadership.

Guided by nbn’s purpose to elevate Australia by connecting people and powering progress, Ms Sweeney is passionate about the role high-quality, reliable connectivity plays in transforming lives, empowering communities, and strengthening the nation’s digital future. She is committed to ensuring nbn remains at the heart of Australia’s telecommunications ecosystem and is a key enabler of innovation, inclusion, productivity and growth.

Prior to joining NBN Co, Ms Sweeney was Chief Executive Officer at Vocus, where she led the company’s largest-ever investment programme, a five-year strategy to build critical digital infrastructure and position Vocus as Australia’s second-largest inter-capital fibre network operator. As Chief Operating Officer at Vocus from 2019 to 2023, Ms Sweeney spearheaded the company’s digital and network transformation, expanded its national fibre backbone, and delivered significant improvements in customer experience.

Ms Sweeney spent 20 years at Telstra in a range of senior leadership and executive roles across Consumer, Small Business, Enterprise & Government, Wholesale and International. She successfully led domestic and international operations and has extensive experience in large scale transformational change.

Ms Sweeney holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology Sydney and is a member of Chief Executive Women.
