What to look for in service providers and plans

 

Although nbn is a wholesaler and supplies providers with wholesale services over the nbn® broadband access network, it’s worth familiarising yourself with some of the elements that nbn provides to providers that go into the data plans they offer you.

Available bandwidth at the wholesale level

At present, you have a choice of retail speeds with your nbn powered plan. Our wholesale Traffic Class 2 (TC2) product offers symmetrical wholesale download and upload speeds to providers, and is designed for businesses that consistently send and receive large data files, and need constant access to time-sensitive applications like voice services and video conferencing technology.*

Wholesale information rate

A plan that offers the same bandwidth at all times is based on what’s called a ‘committed’ information rate that nbn provides to providers. Other plans offer bandwidth that’s network dependent. Of our three wholesale traffic classes, Traffic Class 1 (TC1) is primarily for voice services (VoIP). TC2 offers symmetrical wholesale download and upload speeds to providers plus a wholesale committed information rate designed to help providers support business data services, and Traffic Class 4 (TC4) is a network-dependent wholesale service designed for basic service providers.*

Next level support from your provider

nbn’s wholesale products may come with standard service levels between nbn and providers: stating the specific times (day/night/weekend) network faults that are within nbn’s control can be rectified, and how long it will likely take to fix the fault. Your provider may offer an upgraded service if they have enhanced Service Levels in place with nbn.

Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the nbn network technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network). Speeds may be impacted by the number of concurrent users on nbn’s Fixed Wireless network, including during busy periods. Satellite users may experience latency.
