When Sam Coupland moved to Armidale with his family in late 2012 he found a crucial component of life missing – no internet connection! Not an ideal position for someone like Sam who needed a connection for his home office…
Fortunately for Sam the NBN soon arrived in Armidale and he got a fixed wireless connection to the network – enabling him to do a lot of his work from a one-room cottage come office.
Sam is one of the founders of Sydney-based FMRC, a consultancy that provides business advice and training for law firms around Australia and New Zealand.
He uses his NBN connection to connect with the head office and to access files from its computers, and for VOIP calls.
Sam says having the broadband connection has allowed him to spend part of his working week at home with his wife and three young children.
"A fair bit of it I can do from my desk and it doesn't really matter where that desk is, I can do my work from anywhere and the technology allows me to do that.
"It means I can be more involved with the kids. I can have a degree of flexibility. It can be family time as well as work time."
