Step 1: Check eligibility and register for full fibre installation
If your building or complex is eligible, and you’re an authorised representative (via the Owners Committee, Body Corporate or through ownership of the entire building), you can submit a request for nbn to install full fibre in your building or complex. Once registered, we will use the information provided to further assess your eligibility.
Ineligible buildings and complexes
If your building or complex isn't eligible, you can still register for updates and we will let you know if your building or complex becomes eligible.
Step 2: Quote and agreement
If your building or complex is eligible and you have already submitted a request, the nbn Sales team will be in contact to confirm the Build Quote and Terms and Conditions (Area Switch) Agreement (together, the Agreement). This will need to be signed by the Authorised Representative of the building or complex (example: member of Owner's Committee/authorised agent/director).
nbn is committed to expanding fibre access. In some exceptional cases, nbn may determine that an upgrade to a particular building or complex is unfeasible due to factors including (but not limited to) excessive build complexity, infrastructure limitations, or environmental factors. Where nbn determines that an upgrade is unfeasible, nbn will terminate the build and the agreement. If that occurs then:
- no charges will be payable by the building owner/s; and
- nbn will remediate any works already commenced to the building’s original condition.
Step 3: Site Survey and Installation Plan
Feedback on the Installation Plan
An nbn construction partner will provide an installation plan for your particular building or complex. You will have an opportunity to provide feedback on that installation plan. If you don’t provide that feedback within 10 business days, nbn will assume you have no feedback and proceed with construction as planned. nbn may accommodate reasonable feedback at our discretion, however nbn has no obligation to amend our installation plan.
If you choose not to proceed with the build after receiving the installation then a break fee will be payable to cover the costs incurred by nbn for any planning, design, and preparatory work related to the fibre installation.
Step 4: Installation
Once the installation plan is agreed, an approved construction partner will contact the site contact to advise a suitable date/time to attend site and start construction. Additionally, the site contact will be provided a QR code for each resident to book an appointment with the construction partner to install nbn equipment within each unit/premises.
If a resident is unavailable during the installation window and the nbn equipment cannot be installed inside their individual unit/premises, an upgrade can still be completed once the entire building/complex has been declared ready to connect. The resident will need to arrange installation of the nbn equipment inside the unit/premises by placing an order through their preferred phone and internet provider.
There is no additional fee for the nbn construction partner to attend the premises at a later date to complete the installation of the nbn equipment.*
Step 5: Ready to Connect
After construction is complete, nbn will conduct quality and safety checks before activating the nbn equipment onsite. The timeframe varies depending on the size of the building or complex and the number of units/premises.
Upon completion, an nbn representative will reach out to the authorised representative of your building or complex to confirm residents can now place orders with their chosen phone and internet provider to connect to full fibre. This process typically takes 4-6 weeks.

*nbn is a wholesaler and does not control the prices charged by phone and internet providers. nbn’s obligations under the Agreement are satisfied once all the units/premises in the building/complex are able to order a connection over the upgraded infrastructure from their preferred phone and internet provider.
