nbn’s new Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) one port connection box will be available from September. It’s smaller in size than nbn's previous connection box, with a single Ethernet port, and – most importantly – the capability to reach next-generation, multi-gigabit speeds.

Installing FTTP for the first time or upgrading to nbn Hyperfast#, nbn’s upcoming multi-gigabit plan? The new FTTP one port connection box, available in September 2025, is designed to give you a modern, compact experience that helps your home or small business do great things.

How do I connect to the internet?
- Sign up to a nbn powered plan
To connect your nbn internet service, sign up to a nbn powered plan with your preferred phone and internet provider. Once your order is confirmed and installation is scheduled, your new connection box will be installed by a technician. You can then begin the connection process immediately if you’re supplying your own Wi-Fi router or once you receive a router from your internet provider. - Remove the wall mount cover to access the ports on the nbn connection box
To remove the wall mount cover, press the indents on the side of the cover and slide it downwards. For more information, check out our tips on removing your wall mount cover.
- Connect your Wi-Fi router to the nbn connection box
Plug the Ethernet cable from your Wi-Fi router into the orange Ethernet port labelled ‘Port’. - The nbn connection box will connect to the nbn network
The green light labelled ‘Optical’ will flash slowly, indicating that there is activity on the nbn network and data is being transmitted.
When the green ‘Optical’ light stops flashing and stays on, this means your nbn connection box is connected to the nbn network.
The green light labelled ‘Port’ will flash, indicating that there is activity on the port connected to your Wi-Fi router. - Reattach the wall mount cover to protect the cables
Once connected, reattach the wall mount by sliding it upwards into place.
A guide to the connection box lights and signals
Your nbn connection box has four indicator lights on the front panel.
Power
| Indicator | Meaning | Action |
| Off | There is no power to your nbn connection box. | Check the power supply is plugged in and switched on and is connected to your nbn connection box. If there is still no power light, contact your provider. |
| Green – slow flashing | Your nbn connection box is starting up. | No action is required. The flashing light should turn into a green solid light shortly. |
| Green – fast flashing | Your nbn connection box is being upgraded or receiving updates. | No action required. |
| Green - solid | Your power supply is working normally and your nbn connection is ready for operation. | No action required. |
Optical

Port

| Off | Either a service has not been ordered for this port or a service has been ordered but the Wi-Fi router is not connected to the nbn connection box. | Check your Wi-Fi router is correctly connected to the nbn connection box (refer to our guide to setting up your internet connection for instructions) if you have already ordered a service. If you have not ordered a service, please contact your provider. |
| Green – fast flashing | There is an active service and there is activity on this ethernet port. | No action required. |
| Green – solid | There is an active service and there is no activity on the ethernet port. | No action required. |
Lights on/off
Pressing the ‘LIGHTS ON/OFF’ button turns the lights on your connection box on or off, giving you a practical way to minimise disruption from the flashing lights depending on where your nbn connection box is located within your home or business.
Turning the lights off doesn’t turn the connection box off or impact how it works. Just remember to turn them back on if you’re doing some troubleshooting, as they won’t automatically turn back on if there’s an issue with your connection box.
What are the ports on the connection box?
Note: the arrangement or order of the ports may vary slightly, based on the manufacturer, but will appear from left as either:
Reset > Port > Power > Optical or Power > Reset > Port > Optical
| Reset | A ‘paperclip activated’ button to force a reset of the nbn connection box. How do I restart/reset the nbn connection box? You should only use the 'paperclip activated' Reset button to restart your nbn connection box when your provider asks you to. There are two modes to this button:

| Port | The Ethernet port used to connect the nbn connection box to your Wi-Fi router. |
| Power | The port for connecting the power supply unit to the connection box. |
| Optical | The port used to connect the fibre optic cable that brings the internet service into the nbn connection box. |
