NBN Co appoints Simon Atkinson as Chief Financial Officer

11 June 2025

NBN Co has announced the appointment of Simon Atkinson as Chief Financial Officer. Simon is based in Melbourne and commences his role at the company on 16 June 2025. He will work closely with outgoing CFO Philip Knox during a transition period leading up to nbn’s Annual Results.

Simon brings over 30 years of experience in finance, strategy and executive leadership across highly regulated industries including mining, rail freight and chemicals. Most recently he was CEO of Bis Industries, which provides a range of services and equipment to the mining industry, and prior to this CFO and President of Freight at Pacific National, Australia’s largest privately owned rail freight business.

After more than six years, Philip Knox, nbn’s Chief Financial Officer, has decided the time is right to step into the next chapter of his career, pursuing opportunities in non-executive roles.

Ellie Sweeney, CEO at NBN Co, said:

“I’d like to thank Philip for his service to nbn over the last six years, and the strategic and financial counsel he has provided since I joined nbn.

“I am excited to have Simon Atkinson join as CFO. Simon’s experience in companies within Australia and internationally will be a significant asset to nbn as we pursue our future ambitions of commercial sustainability, underpinned by efficient capital management and network investment.”
