More than 19,000 Victorian homes and businesses to benefit from full fibre expansion

22 October 2026

  • Around 19,000 homes and businesses across 70 Victorian towns are expected to benefit from expanded access to nbn full fibre.
  • Construction is already underway in Sebastopol and surrounding areas, with all locations expected to be ready to connect by December 2030.
  • The expansion is being delivered through nbn's partnership with the Victorian Government under the Connecting Victoria program.

Around 19,000 homes and businesses across 70 Victorian communities are expected to benefit from expanded access to nbn full fibre via Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), providing a more reliable connection and greater capacity to support growing data use.

The upgrades are being delivered through nbn's partnership with the Victorian Government under the Connecting Victoria program. Construction has already commenced in Sebastopol and surrounding areas, and the rollout will continue progressively, with all locations expected to be ready to connect by December 2030.

nbn full fibre is nbn's fastest, most reliable and resilient residential technology. Fibre provides the capacity to support growing data use across homes and businesses while delivering a more reliable and consistent broadband experience. As Australians continue to demand more from their connectivity, fibre provides the foundation to support future digital needs, helping communities stay connected today and into the future.

The communities identified for upgrade are currently served by nbn's Fixed Wireless network. As homes and businesses migrate to full fibre, demand is removed from the Fixed Wireless network, making additional capacity available to remaining homes and businesses.

nbn's partnership with the Victorian Government's Connecting Victoria program has already delivered access to fibre upgrades to over 100,000 premises, expanded Fixed Wireless coverage to thousands of Victorian homes and businesses, and supported improved connectivity across regional Victoria.

Together with nbn's broader network upgrade programs, more than 1.3 million Victorian homes and businesses previously served by copper and wireless technologies can now access nbn full fibre.

As a result, more than 94 per cent of premises across Victoria's fixed-line footprint have access to nbn multi-gigabit capable technologies today. More than 400,000 Victorian homes and businesses have already upgraded to a full fibre connection, underscoring the value Australians place on faster and more reliable broadband.

Gavin Williams, nbn Chief Development Officer, Regional & Remote, said:

"Across Australia, millions of homes and businesses are already connected to nbn full fibre and we continue to expand access to more communities as demand for connectivity grows.

"Victoria has been one of the success stories of nbn's fibre rollout. More than 1.3 million homes and businesses across the state can now access fibre through nbn's upgrade programs, and this investment will help extend those benefits to even more regional and peri-urban communities.

"For customers, full fibre means access to nbn's fastest, most reliable and resilient residential technology, helping provide the capacity, reliability and performance needed to support everyday activities now and into the future.

"Reliable, high-capacity connectivity has become an essential part of everyday life. Whether people are working from home, learning online, running a business, streaming content or accessing digital services, fibre provides greater capacity, improved reliability and a better online experience.

"This investment builds on the success of the Victorian Government's Connecting Victoria partnership with nbn, which has already helped improve connectivity for communities across the state. These additional fibre upgrades will help ensure more Victorians can access the connectivity they need to participate in an increasingly digital economy, support local businesses and communities, and take advantage of future opportunities."

Notes to Editors

  • Locations were chosen through a joint nbn and Victorian Government assessment process, considering technical and construction feasibility, customer outcomes, network efficiency and the ability to maximise the reach of available funding.
  • These upgrades are being delivered through a reinvestment arising from the Victorian Government's earlier investment in Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) upgrades for premises served by Fibre to the Node (FTTN) under the Connecting Victoria program. The expansion of nbn's national fibre upgrade programs has enabled this investment to be used to extend full fibre access to additional regional communities across Victoria
