The School Student Broadband Initiative is an Australian Government program
The School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) has now reached its connection allocation, with no more places available under the current initiative.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact your telephone or internet service provider to discuss whether they have any service options that might be available to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have an unredeemed SSBI voucher, what do I do?
The SSBI was designed for 30,000 families and carers. That allocation has now been filled and all unused vouchers expired on 30 June 2025.
If I already have an SSBI plan, when does this end?
If you already have internet services provided through the School Student Broadband Initiative, your service will continue until 30 June 2028.
I already have an SSBI plan and I need support or advice on my service – what should I do?
Your internet provider can help you identify, troubleshoot and resolve concerns with your SSBI service. If not, they have a direct relationship with nbn if they believe it is an issue with the nbn® network.
I can’t remember who my SSBI internet provider is?
If you are receiving free internet from the School Student Broadband Initiative and need to contact your chosen internet provider, please search for their details in either your email or mobile phone messages. You should also have received a letter from your chosen internet provider when you originally signed up for the program.
The following lists the internet providers that have participated in SSBI:
- Activ8me
- Aussie Broadband
- Belong
- Connected Australia (previously known as Lemonade Broadband)
- Exetel
- Launtel
- MultiWave
- Optus
- SkyMesh
- Superloop
- Vodafone
I am on SSBI, but I received a bill from my internet provider. What should I do?
The SSBI was designed to be free to existing participants for the duration of the initiative (that is, to 30 June 2028). If you receive a bill from your internet provider, contact their customer service centre for assistance.
I am moving house and my internet provider said they don’t provide internet at that location. What do I do?
We expect that in many cases when moving house, your current SSBI internet provider will be able to provide services at your new address. In a limited number of cases, your provider may not offer services due to the location or the technology used to provide your service. If this happens, your phone and internet provider can put you in contact with nbn, who will assist by working with your future phone and internet provider to get the service transferred. You may be asked by nbn to choose your new provider from a list of SSBI internet providers and also give contact details including your new address.
Important notes
The rollout of the nbn network will involve new technologies, and some existing devices including many medical alarms, may not be compatible with these at all times. You should contact your equipment provider to find out if your alarm or other equipment will work when connected to the nbn network and what alternative solutions are available.
