Please note: The School Student Broadband Initiative is now closed to new families and carers and will not be accepting further nominations.
The School Student Broadband Initiative is an Australian Government program
The School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) has now reached its connection allocation, with no more places available under the current initiative.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact your telephone or internet service provider to discuss whether they have any service options that might be available to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have an unredeemed SSBI voucher, what do I do?
The SSBI was designed for approximately 30,000 families and carers. That allocation has now been filled. Unfortunately, a voucher does not guarantee a place on the program, and all existing unused vouchers expired on 30 June 2025.
If I already have an SSBI plan, when does this end?
If you already have internet services provided through the School Student Broadband Initiative, your service will continue until 30 June 2028.
I already have an SSBI plan and I need support or advice on my service – what should I do?
Your internet provider can help you identify, troubleshoot and resolve concerns with your SSBI service. If not, they have a direct relationship with nbn if they believe it is an issue with the nbn® network.
If you have general questions about the program, the National Referral Centre remains in place until 30 September 2025 and can be contacted online or on 1800 954 610.
I can’t remember who my SSBI internet provider is?
If you are receiving free internet from the School Student Broadband Initiative and need to contact your chosen internet provider, please search for their details in either your email or mobile phone messages. You should also have received a letter from your chosen internet provider when you originally signed up for the program.
The following lists the internet providers that have participated in SSBI:
- Activ8me
- Aussie Broadband
- Belong
- Connected Australia (previously known as Lemonade Broadband)
- Exetel
- Launtel
- MultiWave
- Optus
- SkyMesh
- Superloop
- Vodafone
Important notes
# Please contact your internet provider directly for full details of their individual School Student Broadband Initiative retail offers. nbn is a wholesaler and does not supply services directly to customers.
The rollout of the nbn network will involve new technologies, and some existing devices including many medical alarms, may not be compatible with these at all times. You should contact your equipment provider to find out if your alarm or other equipment will work when connected to the nbn network and what alternative solutions are available. For more information, visit nbn.com.au/compatibility
